so i needed a new ride for work because obviously my RC wasn't the ideal thing for a 40 mile commute every day. looked for about a week before finding this xj. also bought a dakota the same day. $1100 for the jeep and $650 for the 93 dakota which needs a p/s rack and new wheels. both are high mileage but well maintained.
the XJ will be my driver for a while, then be shared by the wife and i after the dakota is driveable. she has her focus too. after i'm done with the work on my 79 RC the XJ will get some mods. new rear axle, a lift, tires and wheels. the usual stuff but nothing hard core so my wife can still drive it.

here is one pic for now, the night i brought it home. i'll take some more sunday. 200k on the clock but it drives like new. the interior is in amazing shape. did i mention $1100?

trying to figure out the alternator wiring so i can add an external voltage regulator. pcm has the alt field fault code. won't turn the alt on. hope to get it done wens morning so i can take it to death valley. taking the kids to scotty's castle and the race track with the mysterious moving rocks. and anything else we have time for.

replaced the pcm today. don't know if it was the cheap chinese voltage reg but my external reg fix had stopped working. no more problems now.

plan to take it out for some mild wheeling this sunday if the weather improves. maybe get some more pics up. these little XJs are a blast to drive, i see why guys love them so much.

well, i'm finally going to stop being lazy and get some work done on the cherokee. it suffered a trans failure of some kind about 6 months ago or so. also was waiting for more tools, tranny jack adapter for my floor jack for one. think it is a t/conv or flex plate issue. we'll see when i get it out saturday. supposed to rain all weekend so it'll be a good time for it. dam i miss having access to a lift though. i hate doing this stuff on the ground.

well, it's obvious someone has had the tranny or engine out before. no surprize at 200k on the clock. they didn't tighten the tranny bell housing bolts. they were all loose. i noticed the trans is pulling away from the block on one side. i stopped their in disgust. t/conv and front pump are toast i bet. think that is why it quit moving, no t/conv engagement.  Sad

I've been thinking about finding one of these as a daily driver. Good luck with it.
