We pulled the engine yesterday and it went very smoothly thanks to the help of several folks including Idually (thanks Andy - huge help dude) who came down from Denver for the day, TJ, Bob, Bob, and Rob.
We tore the rig apart - removed/cut off the front clip, scrapped the wrecked sheetmetal, pulled the hardware off the engine, loosed the converter, and yanked the engine.  It was tighter than I thought it would be, but it eventually popped out with a little help of a prybar getting the flexplate to clear the bellhousing.  Anyways, some pics for anyone curious.  It's taller than I imagined, and it is every bit of 1000 lbs.  Don't drop it on yer foot....

Pulling engine

Back side of a 6BT, and factory adaptor

Engine stand I made today - the engine flips verses rolls - very stable and simple.  It's designed to flip only when the accessories are removed, else it's just a stable way to move that big honkin engine around without it rolling over and killing someone, or cracking the concrete...

Rear mount - all plugs are accessable

D-side

P-side mount - uses the motor mounts as the main support for the weight of the engine -just like the factory

Just mothballing it for now until the RC is done, then the diesel project starts.  Engine is just getting some new seals - it already has a HX-35 turbo, 16 cm collar and a set of POD's - it put 253 hp and 630 tq to the tires and got 20 mpg - awesome engine, and it has 245,000 miles on it - ran like day one.  All it is going to get is a 3-piece exhaust manifold, a pump rebuild with internal mods, and a fresh set of gaskets and paint.  Otherwise the engine will remain unchanged.  The rig is getting a serious facelift including 4x4 conversion, dually conversion, and a bunch of doors.  A '98 48RE is getting rebuilt as well as a Dana 80 dually rear, and my dana 60 dually front is already ready to go.
Lot of mods, but I just needed to get the rig apart and make some room.

Unfortunately no - the rig is my truck.  Back in February it punted a Ford Ranger clean off the road after the guy tried to cut across oncomming traffic, namely me, my buddy TJ, and my 7000 lb diesel.  We skidded to a hault, looked back, and the Ranger was on its roof.  Eye witnesses said it was the most spectacular thing they had ever seen - the Rnager just went flying like a toy....
I won the battle but we both lost the war.  God's grace kept anyone from getting hurt - that guy would be dead if he hadn't had his belts on.

Thanks bud  Wink.  I think I'm addicted to cutting and fusing metal....and I also seem to have a thing for 2" x 3/16"-wall square tube.... Roll Eyes.  I looked around for a Cummins stand but couldn't find one, which gave me a real good excuse to build something  Grin.
