I learned that the Diesel equiped trucks with the A518 have a deeper transmission pan then my regular old 727 transmision has. Flake was kind enough to tell me about it and then he gave me the old pan and the filter extension off of his truck. Thanks Flake pan comaprison Filter extension Filter installed with extension I highley recomend buying the 12.00 mopar gasket. I know it seems kind of pricey for a gasket but I doubt it will ever leak. Gasket comparison Notice that there is an O ring on both sides of the bolts. It was also very easy to line up with the pan since it is made out of some sort of plastic and does not change shape.

So let me get this straight, the 518 deeper pan and filter is a direct fit replacement to the 727?? We need some numbers on that, I have been wanting to put a deeper pan when I do a shift kit on my 727...

Any 518 pan will work... from a 318, 360, etc...they're all deeper than a stock 727 pan. I think the years go from '90 up to about 2001...maybe longer.

That doesn't help those of us with 518's. I had to fork out the dough for a Mag-Hytek pan.

I'm not entirely sure that pan is off of my `93 Cummins, it was in the B&M box which is what I put on my old `96 V10. Either way all the Diesel and V10 autos I've seen are as deep as the one I gave Gmule.

Even the stock pans on V8 equipped 46RE's are deeper than the older 727 pans. I have a buddy who replaced his pan and I intend on begging him for his old one.

I don't know. This particular pan is 3" deep. The stocker was only 1" deep.

Off of the transmission the pan comes off of. Don't forget to take the screws that hold it on too.

I got a deep pan that included a filter extension and a drain plug from Summit for about $40. Oh yeah, it's chrome too I didn't care about that part, I just wanted one with a drain plug. If you can't find one for too cheap, then I'd go that route. Randall

A little info I picked up from a torqueflite rebuild manual: A500's/A518's have valve body mods to accomodate the OD unit. The VB mods make the VB hang lower than the VB on the respective A904/A727. Thus, a deeper pan was needed, which is good news for anyone with an A904 or A727 wanting a deeper pan. Any A500 pan will fit and function as a "deep" pan on an A904, same goes for any A518/A727. Filter extensions can be had from many different sources, but I would suggest checking out the Moparts board. One of the members CNC's aluminum extension plates that house O-rings and are not nearly as flimsy looking as the extensions sold in online stores like Summit or Jegs.

you will use the origional dip stick. you still will want the fluid filled to the same point in relation to the valve body. otherwise there would be no advantage to a deep pan. it's simply to hold more fluid. David

Now I know why the guy on the phone at B&M said I probably wouldn't need to use the filter extension if I put their deep pan on my 47RE transmission. What is a 518 transmission? Is it another name for a 47RE transmission?

The 518 was the early name for the 46RH, as the 618 was the early name for the 47RH.

Mopar 727 chrome deep pan w/drain plug and ext. for filter. Good deal, but you should upgrade to better ext. for filter. The one that comes from Mopar is cheap. Mancini Racing has the cnc machined filter ext. w/ the o-ring and the the deep pans. Visit there website.
